Green infrastructure solutions
At Ferguson Waterworks, we take a customized approach to green infrastructure solutions. We help customers not only attain their goals for improved water quality, protection or rehabilitation of their downstream natural resources but also meet regulatory requirements for stormwater by finding the right combination of technologies.
To better serve municipalities, we’ve developed a suite of high-performance, cost-appropriate and low-maintenance solutions in the green stormwater infrastructure and low-impact development space, including:
Space-efficient storage
Minimize your excavation and maximize your storage. Our offerings in subsurface stormwater storage allow for detention, harvest, and reuse of infiltration into the native soil. Ferguson experts can accommodate complex footprints and arrangements to manage stormwater volume on both private site developments and linear green street projects.
Media and biofiltration
We offer high-performance and aesthetically pleasing vegetated and media-based treatments to cut down on pollutants entering downstream waterbodies and natural resources. Our solutions feature smaller footprints that grant designers maximum flexibility in design and fit easily into spaces too small for traditional rain gardens or bioretention systems.
Alternative surfaces
As alternatives to traditional pavements, we offer a variety of unique porous and permeable surfaces. Designed to convey water rapidly down through surfaces, our offerings allow efficient infiltration into native soils and reduce the amount of piping and drains required on a site.
Filters and screens
We provide mechanical filters and screens for both surface green infrastructure and subsurface storage systems. By providing superior protection from debris, our offerings effectively reduce the cost and frequency of stormwater asset maintenance. We work collaboratively with customers, often developing custom designs to provide solutions to city- or project-specific challenges.
Our focus is to help customers complete a successful green infrastructure project that doesn’t just look good on day one but is also resilient into the future with minimum maintenance.
2023 Green Infrastructure Challenge details
This challenge to develop sustainable infrastructure water systems is open to municipalities, local and regional water authorities in the Southeast: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina. If you’re selected as the final winner, your municipality will receive customized technical support and funding for the project.
How the challenge works
| Explain: Define the problem you’re facing. Engage with your residents and put together a clear challenge statement. | Submit by May 31, 2023 |
| Develop: We’ll select challenge finalists by June 16, 2023, and provide input to further develop their proposal. | Final proposal due July 7, 2023 |
| Implement: We’ll select the final winner by July 21, 2023. The winner receives direct support from Ferguson and access to our vast network of resources, products and experts to take your plan from proposal to reality. | Winner selected by July 21, 2023 |
How are finalists evaluated?
Think big for this challenge—what are the urgent and “unsolvable” challenges that exist in your community? To develop the strongest proposal, pay special attention to detail in the following areas:
The challenge statement
In the first stage, outline the problem and how its resolution will provide measurable improvements to impaired natural resources and directly address the needs of your community.
Strategic alignment
In the second stage, align the proposal with a larger vision for your community. Identify any additional efforts you’ll undertake to achieve the outcome.
Applicant readiness
Include detailed plans for organizational structures, processes and practices you’ll require to implement your ideas.
Appropriate allocation
Reflect an appropriate use of finalist resources—including funds and products—to efficiently implement the proposal.
A partnered approach
Identify real and potential partners and clarify their roles in the planning and execution of the project.
